The House of Lin transforms a typical two-story apartment into a seven floor residential mansion. The simple yet elegant design enables the building to distinguish itself from its symmetrically identical neighbors without overpowering the modest nature of the apartment block.

Though the space within the house has exponentially expanded with the addition of five levels, the interior maintains its previous intimacy through a series of designs meant to make residents fully aware of all spatial elements. The lower levels’ stairs circle upwards around open space to enable residents to view floors directly above and below them.

From level five up, a courtyard runs vertically through the center of the house. Stairs spirals up around the dimensions of the courtyard to complete the house’s staircase. Together these designs create the feeling that residents live together in one house instead of seven separate apartments.
